This drawing was created by Dale Chihuly in the studio of Juris K. Ubans, a professor who headed the Art Department and the Art Gallery at University of Southern Maine. A prominent art collector, portions of Ubans collection, including work by Dale Chihuly, can be found in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the Portland Museum of Art and Farnsworth Art Museum. DALE CHIHULY (1941) is an American glass artist and entrepreneur. He is well known in the field of blown glass, "moving it into the realm of large-scale sculpture". The artist is known for his series of sculptural glass works and paintings, and perhaps best recognized for his huge installations of organically shaped Chandeliers, some weighing up to almost a ton. With his technical innovation, tremendous range of patterns and vibrant colors, Chihuly's works are immediately identifiable making him one of the most widely recognized artists in the world today.
